Privacy Policy

Boulie is a sourdough starter companion made by Alejandro Portillo Guerrero ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data Boulie handles and where it goes. The short version: your bakes stay on your phone, there is no account, and the only thing that leaves your device is a small copy of a jar photo when you run a rise check, plus basic app analytics.

Data stored on your device

• Starter profile & logs — your starter's name, feeds, rise checks, and bakes are saved locally on your device and included in your normal iOS device backups.
• Photos — jar and loaf photos you take or attach are stored locally in the app's private storage. We never store them on our servers, and we never publish them.

The rise check (photo analysis)

• When you run a rise check, Boulie sends a small, resized copy of that one photo (about 512 pixels on the long side) to our analysis endpoint at scan.boulie.app so an AI model can describe what it sees in the jar — bubbles, the shape of the surface, how high the starter has risen.
• That endpoint runs on Cloudflare Workers AI in the EU. The photo is processed in memory to produce that description and is not stored by us or used to train models. The original full-size photo never leaves your device.
• No account, name, or email is attached to the request, because Boulie has none. Cloudflare processes the request as our service provider.
• Photos you simply save to your bake journal are never sent anywhere — only a rise check sends one.

The website's rise forecast

• boulie.app/forecast estimates your kitchen temperature from today's local weather. To do that, our Cloudflare function uses the approximate location Cloudflare derives from your connection (city level), or the coordinates your browser shares if you allow it, rounded to about 1 km.
• Those coordinates are used once to fetch a weather forecast from MET Norway and are not logged or stored. Your browser itself makes no third-party requests.

Analytics, crash reports & subscriptions

• Analytics — we use Amplitude (EU servers) to count in-app events such as "onboarding completed" or "paywall viewed", so we can see where the app confuses people. These events are tied to a random device identifier, not to you.
• Crash & performance reports — Sentry (EU region) receives diagnostics when Boulie crashes or runs slowly.
• Subscriptions — RevenueCat manages your Boulie Pro subscription status, identified by your device's vendor identifier. Payment itself is handled by Apple through the App Store; we never see your payment details. Apple's handling of that data is described in Apple's Privacy Policy.

What we don't do

• No account, no sign-up, no passwords.
• No advertising SDKs, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking for advertising.
• No selling or sharing of personal data.
• No storing of your photos on our servers.

Notifications & alarms

Feed reminders, peak alerts, and bake-step alarms are scheduled locally on your device. No push-notification servers are involved.

Deleting your data

Deleting the app deletes all of Boulie's local data, including photos and logs. To ask us to delete analytics events associated with your device identifier, email support@boulie.app.

Children

Boulie is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If Boulie adds features that send more data off your device, this policy will be updated first and the app will tell you before anything new is shared.
